Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the exam!
The official TELC C1 Leseverstehen und Sprachbausteine block lasts 90 minutes. Leseverstehen has 3 parts worth 48 points: Textrekonstruktion with 6 Zuordnungsaufgaben, Selektives Verstehen with 6 Zuordnungsaufgaben, and Detailverstehen with 11 richtig/falsch/nicht-im-Text items plus 1 Makroaufgabe for Globalverstehen. Sprachbausteine has 1 part worth 22 points: 22 four-option grammar-and-lexis gaps.
Treat each task as a discourse task, not a vocabulary quiz. In Textrekonstruktion and Selektives Verstehen, look for paragraph function, reference chains, contrast, and continuation. In Detailverstehen, separate what is explicitly true, explicitly contradicted, and simply not stated; then solve the Makroaufgabe from the whole text. For Sprachbausteine, test both grammar and idiomatic fit.
The gaps often require more than one rule at once: case, verb government, fixed expressions, reported speech, passive forms, reference, and precise word choice. Many wrong options are valid German in another context, so the decisive evidence is usually the full clause or neighboring sentence.
