ÖSD Zertifikat A1: structure and passing requirements

This preparation covers the standard ÖSD Zertifikat A1 (ZA1) for learners aged 14 and over. The exam uses everyday situations from Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Separate variants such as ZA1 / Österreich and KID A1 are outside this course.

Two modules, four skills

The written module consists of reading (25 minutes, 30 points), listening (about 10 minutes, 30 points) and writing (20 minutes, 15 points). The oral module is an individual speaking exam lasting about 10 minutes, with 10 minutes preparation; it is worth 25 points.

To pass, you need at least 38 of 75 points in the written module, including at least 6 points in reading, 6 in listening and 4 of 10 in the email task. The oral module requires at least 12 of 25 points. A combined total alone is not sufficient.

How to prepare

  1. Learn the task types and timing for each skill.
  2. Use the official model test to become familiar with instructions, pictures and listening samples.
  3. Practise short emails answering three questions, and speak aloud daily about familiar topics.

Practice coverage

A1 includes interactive reading, listening, writing and speaking practice through the Start buttons.
