Everything you need to know about the exam!
The Goethe A2 Writing section takes 30 minutes and consists of two free writing tasks. You will write a personal message to maintain contact and a semi-official message to regulate a situation or make requests.
Task 1 focuses on personal communication—staying in touch with friends or family. Task 2 involves semi-official situations like making appointments, requesting information, or coordinating activities. Both tasks test your ability to communicate clearly in everyday situations.
Examiners evaluate whether you complete the task, how well you organize your ideas, your vocabulary and grammar range, and overall accuracy. Make sure to address all points in the prompt and write naturally.
Practice writing short emails and messages in German. Focus on common phrases for greetings, making requests, giving information, and closing messages. Keep your language simple and clear—you don't need complex sentences at A2 level.
