Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer A2-B1 Preparation

DTZ is designed for practical German in Germany. It focuses on communication you need for everyday life, work, authorities, education, housing, health, and integration-course completion.

Official exam facts

The Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer is a standardized German exam for CEFR levels A2 and B1.
It is the final language test of the integration course and checks German for everyday life in Germany.
The written exam lasts 100 minutes: listening about 25 minutes, reading 45 minutes, and writing 30 minutes.
The speaking exam is separate and tests everyday interaction, short monologue tasks, and planning together.

What is DTZ useful for?

Integration course completion

DTZ is the language-test part of the integration course final examination. Together with the Leben in Deutschland test, it can lead to the Integration Course Certificate.

How the A2-B1 result works

A2 or B1 certificate

DTZ is a scaled exam. Depending on your results, the certificate can confirm A2 or B1 German skills.

Speaking is essential

For a B1 certificate, you need B1 in speaking and B1 in at least one written result area: Hören/Lesen or Schreiben.

Separate skill results

The results are determined separately for Hören/Lesen, Schreiben, and Sprechen, so weak and strong areas are visible.

Practical communication matters

DTZ rewards communication that works in real-life situations: clear answers, task completion, understandable grammar, and appropriate vocabulary.
