Everything you need to know about the exam!
The TELC B2 Leseverstehen und Sprachbausteine module takes 90 minutes total. It consists of 3 reading comprehension parts (Teil 1-3) plus 2 Sprachbausteine parts. Teil 1 tests global understanding with headline matching (5 questions), Teil 2 tests detailed reading with multiple choice (5 questions), and Teil 3 tests selective reading by matching situations to advertisements (10 questions).
In Teil 1, you read 5 short newspaper-style texts and match them to the correct headlines from a list of 10 options. This tests your ability to quickly grasp the main idea of each text. You need to skim read efficiently and identify key themes.
Teil 2 presents two related articles followed by 5 multiple-choice questions about the texts. Each question has 3 options (a, b, c). You need to read carefully to understand specific details, opinions, contrasts, and arguments across both articles.
Teil 3 gives you 10 situational descriptions and 12 short information texts, including advertisements. Match each situation to the most suitable text and use each text no more than once. Some situations have no matching text; mark x for those. This tests your ability to scan for specific information.
Sprachbausteine Teil 1 is a gap-fill text with 10 blanks where you choose from 3 options (a, b, c) per blank—testing grammar and structure. Sprachbausteine Teil 2 has 10 blanks where you select words from a word bank of 15 options (a-o)—testing vocabulary and context understanding.
Practice reading German newspapers and magazines to improve speed. For Teil 1, focus on identifying main ideas quickly. For Teil 2, practice detailed comprehension questions. For Teil 3, practice scanning advertisements. For Sprachbausteine, review grammar structures and build vocabulary through extensive reading.
